Watching The Clock at MoMa

New York Citys Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) showcased The Clock , a meticulous effort showing clocks and watches from thousands of films from the last 100 years of cinema. I t is 7.45 am when young Billy Kramer wakes up to go the toilet. And then as is his habit he walks to his parents bedroom. But this time something is different. Wheres mom? he asks, shaking his father Ted Kramer (Dustin Hoffman) who is sprawled on his bed in work clothes from the day before. Anyone who has seen this opening section of Robert Bentons Oscar winning masterpiece Kramer vs Kramer will remember that at night Billys mother Joanna (Meryl Streep [ Images ]) had walked out of her home and her marriage. What time is it? a startled Ted asks Billy. The little boy checks the watch on his fathers wrist and says: The little hand is on seven and the big hand is on nine. Wheres mommy? I watched the brief classic segment exactly at 7.45 am on Sunday morning at New York Citys Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). That sequence...

PHOTOS: Strangers Who Look Like Twins Brunelle says hes studied the human face since he started out as a photographer in 1968, at the age of 18. He said he was fascinated by the resemblance between look-alikes. It is not about looking like famous people, he said. The project is about looking like other people. The fact that two persons, totally unrelated to each other, sometimes born in different countries, share the same physical appearance is really the essence of (it). PHO...

Editor's Letter: Why Jodie Foster Left Us Deeply Conflicted

Image
The Advocate 's editor in chief, Matthew Breen, on why the big Golden Globes speech was so confusing. Jodie Foster could have said nothing about her personal life on Sunday, when she accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes, and few of us, even those in the LGBT media, would have thought it strange. Shes famously private, and fiercely protective of the details of her personal life. Instead of talking about her 47 years in the film industry, she decided very publicly to tease the worldwide audience: So Im here being all confessional and I guess I just have the sudden urge to say something that Ive never really been able to air in public Im just going to put it out there, right? Loud and proud, right? So Im going to need your support on thisI am single. Yes I am, I am single. Ergh. Sean Hayes, years before coming out publicly, did this very thing at the Los Angeles GLAAD Awards in 2003, saying: I think its time to share something about myself, something that Ive need...

The state's cuisine is often referenced in the series, where vampires and mortals mingle over bowls of okra gumbo, jambalaya, and red beans and rice.
